Hamilton

Hamilton is where Cameron MacGillivray and Elmer Chagnon founded our company in 1933.

Proud to be in the 'Entrepreneurial Capital of Canada', we continue to invest in the Hamilton community, and in 2003 built a new office downtown, next to the John Sopinka Provincial Court House. Currently the Hamilton office is lead by three partners who handle a wide variety of assurance, accounting and consulting services.

Partners

Paul GibelPaul Gibel CA, works primarily with owner-managed businesses, both large and small, and not-for-profit organizations. Paul's commitment to the local Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club have yielded a much deserved respect in our business community. Paul also serves on the board of the Hamilton Community Foundation.

Lou CelliLou Celli CA, provides full accounting and assurance services, and excels in a variety of business consulting services. He is recognized as a leader in our community through his successful work with owner managed companies in a variety of industries, and in his ability to work with the local financial services industry in successfully securing commercial financing. Lou is also active on the board of the Art Gallery of Hamilton.

Ken LancasterKen Lancaster CA, leads our Hamilton office tax group in the role of Tax Partner. He brings with him a wealth of knowledge in corporate, personal and trust tax issues. Ken is a Hamiltonian at heart. Born and raised in the city he is a graduate of McMaster University and has over twenty years experience with the Hamilton business community. Ken is looking forward to continuing his involvement with the local community and providing the highest caliber of client service specializing in structuring corporate reorganizations, estate and succession planning and scientific research and experimental development refund claims.

Sheryl JohnsonSheryl Johnson CA, has been with the Hamilton office for over 15 years. As a Principal in the firm, she has a concentrated knowledge of accounting and assurance practices, as exemplified in placing first in Hamilton and earning a place on the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario Honor Roll upon completion of the Uniform Final Exams in 1993. Sheryl also has extensive experience in the Not-for-Profit sector including Charities and Foundations. Sheryl is looking forward to continuing her practice and contributing to the high quality client services for which MacGillivray has become known.

Managers

Mark MatthewsMark Matthews BMath CA, Senior Manager, has worked for MacGillivray for over 30 years. He primarily works with owner-managed businesses providing accounting and tax services. He is involved with Wellwood Resources and is a past treasurer for the charity. He is an avid golfer and curler at Dundas Valley Golf Club. He is committed to providing high quality service to all MacGillivray clients.

Michelle KotykMichelle Kotyk CA, has been at MacGillivray since 2000 and previously worked as a senior staff accountant. Her present work in accounting and assurance services focusses on the manufacturing, construction and health care sectors. Michelle exemplifies the firm's tradition of providing the highest caliber of services to its clients.

Erin PodioErin Podio MAcc CA, joined the MacGillivray team in 2002 as a co-operative education student and stayed on full time after completing her Masters of Accounting degree at the University of Waterloo and successfully writing the Uniform Final Exam in the fall of 2005. She was born and raised in Hamilton and has many community linkages including her current position as Treasurer of the Wellwood Resource Centre. Erin has completed parts one and two of the in-depth tax course and specializes in personal, corporate and estate taxes.

Melanie FroeseMelanie Froese MAcc CA, joined MacGillivray Partners in 2005 after achieving honour roll status on the 2005 Uniform Final Examination, with the highest mark in Hamilton. As an audit and accounting manager since 2007, her work in the private sector emphasizes entrepreneurial owner-managed clients in the areas of construction, contracting and manufacturing. Melanie also works with a good number of high-profile public sector organizations in the Hamilton area.

Don J. DesaulniersDon J. Desaulniers B.Comm (Hons) CA, joined MP in July 2008. Born and raised in Dryden Ontario. Don returned to Ontario to work with our firm after 12 years in Winnipeg where he graduated from the University of Manitoba. Don brings a vast array of expertise in the tax area that he has developed in his 6 years with public accounting.

Vince ContiVince Conti CA, grew up and went to school in Hamilton, and obtained his CA in 2005. Vince went to McMaster University, and graduated from Hons. B.Comm in 2002. He has been in public accounting for over 6 years and is involved as a Treasurer with a small charity in East Hamilton.

Suzon CochraneSuzon Cochrane BA, oversees the internal day-to-day operations of the partnership. Her responsibilities include IT and communications infrastructure and consulting. Sue's interpersonal, organizational and management skills keep the office a friendly, efficient and productive working environment.

Don ForbesDon Forbes, HBA, CA. The Partners of MacGillivray Hamilton are pleased to announce the promotion of Don Forbes to the position of Manager. Don has been with MacGillivray since 2007, and a Chartered Accountant since 2008. In his new role, he will provide business advisory services to clients, including assistance with financing, preparing projections forecasts and business valuations. Don has proven to be a valuable member of the MacGillivray team, providing clients with the exceptional level of service for which our firm has become renowned.
